i no this is not where i should post this because this is a pontiac community

but i was just wondering if sombody would be kind enough to explain this

i have a 1998 chevy blazer ls 4x4 4dr, 4.3 vortec

i had the engine replaced and the transmission rebuilt

since the transmission was rebuilt it shift's into 1st gear a little harder then usual.

i was told this is because its a rebuilt transmission with the old torque converter.

does this seem accurate?

You would expect more slippage with an old convertor so if anything you would get less hardness. Do you know which trani is in the vehicle, it could be just a matter of an adjustment?

i have no idea i think its a 4L60-E

i am the second owner of this blazer, they showed proof of paper work of engine replacement and transmission rebuild,

they might have replaced the torque converter but i thought they didnt.

its a good blazer runs very strong actually runs like its brand new but when it shifts into first it goes in a little hard but the rest the gears shift fine

but also i never tryed taking off faster in this blazer, i usually go very slow taking off because 4.3 vortec engines are great but they are gas guzzler's, but do you think going very slow on take off could be causing it aswell?

When exactly is it shifting into 1st? Normally a trani starts off in 1st and unless you have the gas pedal to the floor does not stay in 1st. THe othe time it will catch 1st is if you are going at a low speed and then fullly depress the gas pedal causing a down shift.

well it might be second gear

i very slowly take off gradually going to 10MPH then it shifts, thats when it shifts hard then the rest of the shifts are fine.

it does appear to be a 4L60E so all shifting is controlled by the computer. The only thing you can do is make sure the fluid level is at the proper level once the vehicle is up to operating temperature. The fluid change interval for this vehicle is at every 15,000 for severe duty and every 50,000 for normal, based on that I would change at every 30,000. Below is a link to the owners manual if you dont have one.

i wouldent consider it being use as severe duty, i mean we did have fun with it on the farm from jumping ponds and stuff like that but this issue was happening way before we did the farm stuff

Are there any upgrades done to it that would make the 1-2 shift hard?

Well if he had it at 450hp somehow, I have a feeling your transmission wasn't too fond of that and it lets you know every day.
