I have a 1997 grand am se with the 2.4 DOHC

Lately I have been noticing the engine stumbling hard when idling at random times. It didn't it do it frequently but like ever other minute or once in a blue moon if that makes sense.

So that tempted me to pull the spark plugs and check things out. I have the AC Delco platinum plugs but they were gapped real close like .030-.035 and have been this way for at least 2 years.

I had major bucking going uphill 2-3 years ago and changed the plugs and it stopped that. Apparently I gapped them at the time to .030-.035 I have no idea why I don't remember.

So now yesterday I pull the plugs and go to put back everything together and the engine severly misfires and I can smell fuel but no check engine light.

I took everything apart and reinstalled it about 20 times and still nothing brings it back to running the way it was. I had an old set of coils, module and the plastic housing so I swapped them in and still the same engine major misfires and fuel smell and no check engine light.

Could it be that I just have a bad coil even though I swapped them out with 2 other coils I had? I put my meter on the plastic housing with the coils installed and I got 6.0 reading with the meter to plug 1-4 and 2-3.

I think that is in specs for coils? Also no cracks in that plastic housing no arc marks and I have new ignition boots.

Very odd! I'm thinking I just have a bunk coil and a bad one in the old pair i had. I had a spare module I swapped and still the same problem.

Ideas?

this is your second post about the same problem, did you look at the answers you got on the first post including the correct gap?

By chance did you cross the pulg wires ? Hard to do with coil packs. Have you replaced the fuel filter latley ? Is the throttle body full crap ? Plugged injector ? Think about your engine as a lawn mower. Air, fuel, oil. No air no combustion, no fuel no bang, no oil ur screwed.
