OK, next question. 1971 Pontiac Lemans 350. HEI conversion. I have power at the distributor when the key is on. No power when the key is off. I lose power, 0 volts, when the key is moved to the crank position. I have check fuses and have not found anything blown. This car ran with this wiring a couple weeks ago. I ran a temp power directly to the battery to confirm it starts that way. Any guesses?

who installed the HEI and what modifications to the wiring were done?
the double wire that was used with the points ignition system and connected to the + positive terminal of the stock coil had one wire coming from the starter and one wire coming from the ignition switch. When cranking the coil received full battery voltage through the ignition switch. When running the coil received reduced voltage through the resister wire coming from the starter. A HEI reguires full voltage all the time so trace the wire from the BAT terminal on the HEI to find out where it goes.

you did understand that the stock wiring on a 1971 does NOT supply a full 12 volts while running, it uses the stock resistor wire coming from the starter to supply about 9 volts. So what did you do specifically to the dual wire that connected to the positive terminal of the stock 1971 coil in order to connect it to the BAT terminal of the HEI distributor? If your answer is you did nothing other than splice the dual wire to the BAT terminal then your problem is the wire from the starter broke and it should not have been used to start with.

Sorry I was not specific. I had run a new power feed to the fuse panel. I bypassed the stock wiring originally, knowing the resistor would cause issue. I found a blown fuse (did not look blown but was) and all is well with the world again.

OK, that makes sense, glad you found it.
