does anyone know how to remove the ignition tumble cylinder on an 06 pontiac torrent?

Ignition Tumbler

I bet I know where this is going. I have had my 06 Torrent in the shop (three different dealers) once every six months for complaints with the key sticking in the ignition. They have buffed keys oiled replaced ignition switch and gave me new keys and it is no better. I have had this problem since I purchased it new. Praise god I bought an extended warrenty.

I apologize for the problems you are experiencing with your vehicle. I would like to look further into your situation. Could you please private message or email me your VIN?

Thank you,

adiran,

There is a bulletin for this- # 06-02-35-016C. The lock cylinder needs to be cleaned and lubricated. The affected vehicles are the following:

2005-2006 Chevrolet Equinox
2006 Pontiac Torrent
2003-2007 Saturn VUE

A lack of lubrication may cause adjoining metal surfaces to wear, resulting in a significant amount of powder (black in color) to form in the ignition cylinder case housing. The solution to this problem is to remove the ignition lock cylinder, clean the ignition lock cylinder and case housing. Then lubricate the ignition lock cylinder tip and case. The following procedure illustrates how to perform this job:

You must use two different GM lubricants as outlined in this procedure.

Remove the battery cover and disconnect the negative battery cable.

Remove the ignition lock cylinder (OEM part # 19120481

Use a shop cloth wrapped around a screwdriver to aid in cleaning the inside of the ignition case housing.

Wet a shop cloth with GM Brake Cleaner, P/N 12378392 or equivalent and wipe out the inside of the ignition cylinder case housing.

The actuator blade inside the ignition cylinder case housing must be in the ACC position in order to install the ignition lock cylinder.

Inspect the position of the actuator blade inside the ignition cylinder case housing. If the actuator blade rotated when cleaning the ignition cylinder case housing, then reposition the actuator blade to the ACC position using needle nose pliers.

Use some brake cleaner and with a rag clean the outside of the case and tip of the lock cylinder.

Use the lube , lightly coat the tip and the case of the lock cylinder

The ignition key must be installed in the ignition lock cylinder before installing the cylinder into the housing.

Install the ignition lock cylinder assembly into the ignition cylinder case housing.

Connect the negative battery cable and install the battery cover.

This should cover the whole procedure. This issue plagued many Torrents- including my girlfriend's :(
