Installing a steering wheel with audio controls on Pontiac grand am that...

...doesnt have them? I have a grand am that doesnt have steering wheel controls but if I can find a steering wheel with the audio controls would they be useable
 
If the car was NOT equipped with steering wheel controls the harness would NOT be there for it and the controls will not work ...
swapping the entire system would be a hassle because of the steering column, and wire harness is intertwined with the factory harness under the dash and integrated into the cars main harness ...
but I believe there are some aftermarket systems for wheel controls but I believe they are pricey..
 
bro i been trying to find info on this bc i have an 01 se1 w no wheel controls but i found one with the clock spring and swapped em my problem is my harness doesn’t have the connector for it so my question is, is there a way to splice that connector to existing wires within the harness?

17 year old thread, as explained above you need the matching harness
 
damn then the only true way is just having the harness or not… will keep looking at these threads but thanks for at least answering thought this thread would’ve been dead seeing its 17 yrs later
