08 equinox. Cold upper rad hose. High surge tank. Heater core hoses cold.
replaced thermostat. Bled system. Seemed ok heat was ok
2 days later same problem.
pulled intake. 1 port gasket was messed up.
pulled heads. I had gaskets/bolts for a 2nd rig but never did that one.
dont have intake gaskets yet.
could the intake cause the cold hose/surge tank issues?

That definitely would restrict coolant flow.
Never ran hot?

Kid said it had hot message on dash on wed. I replaced thermostat. Bled system. Drove a bit. She drove a lot on Thursday. Friday it repeated problem. the Intake gasket seals the block to head for coolant flow. If it is bad, you might get a coolant leak into the intake port, oil valley, or even an external leak. How does that effect coolant flow in motor?

Ok. Heads are on. New intake gaskets.
I noticed with heads removed the surge tank was still full?
the line out bottom of tank goes to tee on rear driver side of motor that then goes into heater core.
after running, that hose is hot but 2nd hose on heater core is not hot.
is the flow from the water pump up thru metal hose and
under throttle body around rear of motor and then into heater core?
so, my HC inlet is cold but HC outlet is hot?
nah that can’t be right

Blocked heater core?

I blew out heater core lines and I think I finally have hot vents. Going to let it sit till cold and see how fast it warms up.
but, the Heater core is in a bypass setup. Why would rad hose to thermostat housing have been empty? Hose was cold. It is hot now.

Dont know coolant flow of your engine, 3.4 or 3.6.

Well, with air cleaner removed, upper and lower intake, and both heads, there isnt much stopping you from touching both heater core hoses. But, it’s pretty hard to flush out heater core at that time. Where would water go? Logistics I guess. But, I did not think I had a clogged heater core issue at that time. It’s a 3.4

From what I see Equinox has no heater control valve, only a heater blend door. So one hot hose one not hot, heater clogged.

The steel line out near thermostat housing feeds up to the heater core. Then the outlet from HC goes along rear head and under throttle body and down to WP area.
that being said, the lower rad hose going to thermostat housing should always be hot. And never full of air.
a blocked HC could be evidence of system crud issues?

Have you ever used a chemical cooling system flush?
Do you use distilled water in the cooling system or a known low mineral content water source.

My sister owned it for 10 yrs. always serviced at dealer. Whatever they said, she did. I do not know what services she Had done.
