well ive been lucky enough to have had my intake manifold gaskets replaced
on my 2000 grand am gt. i also had front/rear brake servicing and fuel
filter replaced and blower resistor.

my car is now having "pinging sounds". i called the service guy and he
said sounds like a possible "Vacuum leak". What the heck is this? I
spent close to $2000 and am not going to spend anymore.

car runs smoothly, no other problems except the constant pinging while in
idle and driving.

any help would be much appreciated.

have you tried putting in higher octane fuel? FWIW: I have never heard of a vacuum leak causing pinging.

well it sounds like a pinging or a whistling and it wasn't there before i had my servicing. the service advisor said it sounds like a vacuum leak (i don't even know what this is). is this costly? anyway not prepared to spend anymore money and it's not affecting the performance of my car, it's just the constant noise is driving me crazy.

i added gas to my the day after the servicing but didn't fill up.... and the "pinging" was there before i added additional gas.

if they can't find antyhing tonight when i bring it back in, ill try putting a higher octance.

thanks for the comment.
