Hi. I have an '87 Gt with a 3.4. I also have a Jacobs Pro Street Ultra Team ignition system. The Jacobs system was originally purchased for a 305 Chevy with HEI ignition. The 3.4 in my car was installed using original 2.8 components, including the non-HEI distributor. Has anyone used a Jacobs ignition? Has anyone modified the HEI system to a non-HEI system. If so do you have wiring diagrams, schematics, etc. Any help will be appreciated. The Jacobs system appears to have never been used and came with a Monza that I purchased years ago. Thanks

OK you lost me, the 1987 OEM Fiero with a 2.8 ignition is HEI ( high energy ignition )

Unless I am reading this incorrect you want to take a Multiple spark controller meant for a 8 cylinder and put it on your v6. I am thinking you will need a Controller designed for a 6 cylinder.

I think your question is, can you use the Jacobs Ignition intended for HEI in a non-HEI application? If that is the question you are posing don't you think you should contact Jacobs directly and ask them? You haven't given us any part number concerning the system for us to assist you.

Jacob's Ignition

I've spent an awful lot of time trying to contact Jacobs. Last bit of info was that the company had been sold and that they were now located in Australia. I have sent them an e-mail with the part number as well as the original invoice number. No response to date.

Thanks for your replies. I am going to McGyver the wiring and see if that will work.

How about posting the part number to see if I can come up with anything?

Jacob's Ignition

Part number for the Pro Sport Ignition system is 4006848. Still no response from Australia. Thanks for any help.

From what I see I would pass on installing this system. They do not seem too reliable, there is no support for them in this country and I doubt you will get anywhere with Australia since they dont even list what you have. There are lots of reliable sources, MSD, Accel, Pertronix with good support.

Thanks melsg5. I'm kind of leaning your way for the reasons you list. However, I have the Jacobs system (original cost appr> $600 and never been used). My intent would be to go with the MSD box if this doesn't work.

Try putting it on E Bay and see if you can recoup some of the cost.

Since I have no investment in the Ignition (came in the back of a Chevy Monza I bought), I probably won't try sell it. We're planning to McGyver it on Tuesday. Let you know what happens.
