Knocking In Rear of Vehicle When Braking

I have a 1996 sunfire when I suddenly hit the brake hard I get a knocking noise in the rear
of the car and the car start a thumpping motion.

Have you rear suspension bushings checked for wear and also your rear brakes.

Sounds like the abs is activating. Does it do it right away after sitting a while, or all the time?
