Hey guys! First time poster here.

My girlfriend owns a 2002 Sunfire, had no real issue with it until about a week ago.
The first instance of any issue was the trunk latch apparently failing. ie it refuses to stay shut. I have ordered a replacement latch as I thought that this might just be a simple mechanical failure (bad spring, etc.) Though you can force it to latch by using a pencil to push the mechanism shut, although you have to really push the swing arm with some force.

Now, her drivers side door refuses to latch properly, just like the trunk.
Essentially, I am now wondering if I just wasted money by purchasing a trunk latch when this could be something to with the remote electric locking system.

Any thoughts or possible diagnostics would be appreciated.

Glad to be a new member!

Thanks.

If you push the latch with a screwdriver does it close? If so the striker may need adjustment

Both issues solved. Apparently my girlfriend got in a bit of an accident which was undersold.

Trunk has been repaired, purchased used latch from a similar model of pontiac. This one had larger mounting holes drilled which allowed for a bit more play. Also I literally bent the striker upward with a hammer. goofy fix but it's fine now.

The driver side door was fixed with some purple power :D and proper lubrication.

Thanks for the advice and I am sure I will be back. :D

Best Wishes
