My 2006 pontiac torrent awd is leaking oil from the bottom plate. I took it to the mechanic he said the engine needs to be dropped down so that he can change the oil seal. I'm afraid of the complications that normally follows whenever engine is dropped down. Pls I need your advice. Should I just be topping up the oil everytime or should I drop the engine to change the oil seal by the side of the engine

We dont know how often you have to add oil or how much.
Did you get a second opinion?

Once a month sir. Yes . To be adding oil when it shortens. I add oil once a month about half a liter.

So about 1 quart per month versus how much to repair?

Not Eco freindly, but if it were me I would just check the oil once a week and add as needed. Until it gets much worse than 1 Qt a month I would drive it as is, just keep an eye on it.

But it is your car and your choice.

Pls advice sir
Advice? I asked you to consider the cost of a quart of oil per month versus the cost of the repair.

My 08 torrent with the 3.4 also has the same leaking front seal, probably less than a qt a month for me but I also don't put that many miles on it a month either. I put a large cookie baking pan underneath it in the garage to keep it from staining the floor. It looks unbelievably labor intensive to replace that seal.
