My wives 2002 Pontiac Montana has little heat coming out the upper vents, but pretty good heat that comes out on the floor. The temp. gauge is at the normal range (185-190) but it just seem to put out a whole lot heat. I decided to drain the coolant, and throw in a new thermostat today, and change the anti-freeze over to the "green/yellow" stuff, VS the "Dex-Cool". I took it out for a drive afterwords, and to me it seems to be a little better, but it's still a lot cooler coming out of the "defrost" VS the "floor".
Anyone else have this problem?
Also, for the past couple months, she was complaining that the van has a slight "miss" when she first starts it up in the morning. She say's that the "check engine" light comes on while backing out of the garage, but by the time she gets to the top of our driveway (1 block long) the "check engine" light goes back off. It has NEVER done this for me, but she says it does it everyday???
I put it on my scan tool, and it did have a code of "#2 cylinder misfire". I changed the spark plug, and it didn't change anything. I just changed out the #2/#5 coil pack, and it still has the miss. (???) I did notice that when I pulled the "Throttle Body" off, to get at that WONDERFUL back bolt on the thermostat housing, there was a small amount of anti-freeze in there, and a lot of "carbon" build up. I did clean it all up, but like I said, it still has a small miss to it. The only thing I haven't changed out, is the plug wire. I did an Ohm test on it, and it was in the normal range, so I don't think that's what it is.
Any GOOD GM guy's out there, that can point me in the right direction? I wanted to trade it in on a brand new van for her, but she loves this thing, and WILL NOT PART WITH IT! She has put all but 15 of the 190,500 miles on it.
Thanks for reading, and any help you guy's can offer.....
