It's an '85 Pontiac Fiero, has the 3800 V6, supercharged, undersized pulley swap, 5 speed trans, cross drilled and slotted rotors, polyeurethane bushings all around, Monroe shocks and struts, 17" Konig rims on low pro tires & two 10" subs behind the seats. He tells me the motor has been rebuilt, & the motor, performance suspension, brakes, bushings, etc, only have 40K on them. Body wise it looks damn good, has no rust or dents as far as I can see, racing stickers on the side (Such as Konig, etc.) He claims it puts 320 HP to the wheels. It needs a passenger side door handle, & that's all. He wants to trade for my '98 Dakota, 5.2L V8 4x4, ext cab shortbed, it's worth around 35-4K in good condition, however I have 1200 invested in it. Personally I feel it's a good deal but just not sure if it's quite what I want. What do you think??

Oh yeah & first day on the forum so if there's a problem let me know. Thanks in advance for anything helpful. I'm viewing the car in three days, & I'm still on the fence about it.

Hmm... Doesn't seem there's a lot of interest in this post.... I get it though, I mean look at it/test drive if ya like it trade, if ya don't, don't trade... Suppose I'll have to bite the bullet & go look at it... Either I'll love it, or I'll hate it. Lol

Some pics would help us give some input, but personally I'm kinda leery of buying a car that has had a lot of mods done to it if I don't know the owner and the quality of the work. YMMV though.

It all boils down to personal taste... and responsibility. As msmith pointed out, the car has been heavily modified, but the mods don't seem radical. You may have a few eccentricities with the car, so you might not be able to use it as a daily driver for a few until the bugs are either worked out, or learned to deal with. I, personally, have a lot of faith in the Buick 3800. Very reliable and flexible. With a little work and no-how (and a few bucks) it's not hard to get them to push 360 horses and still have them be a decent daily driver. If you have a second reliable daily driver, go for it. If it's going to be your primary car, you're taking a gamble.

The final verdict is this: how much does it excite you? If the car doesn't absolutely thrill you, you'll quickly tire of any eccentricities and want to abandon it. When premium was over $4.40 a gallon in NY, I was at the gas pump freaking over the price while filling our GP-GTP, then I looked at the car, gave it friendly pat on the rear bumoer and smiled, she's worth it. The I purchased a truck, it's a 73 Ford with a 5.0 HO, slightly modded. Like you, I knew very little history of the truck or the previous owner. After playing with it a few weeks, I figured out that it wasn't going to run worth a crap without premium. But to me, it's worth it. I love my truck. If you don't have that same attitude, walk away.

Yeah, that's my biggest problem, letting go of my truck.. She's just a '98 Dakota, 4x4 V8, she needs a few things but has never let me down, had some damn good memorys with some damn good people. But nonetheless, here are some photos.

Not a bad looking car except maybe for the park bench wing on the back. I think it would look better with a stock wing, but that's just my opinion. In the end, only you can decide if it's worth giving up your truck for though.

LOL yeah, I'm on the fence about the spoiler myself. Anyways I'm going to look at it tomorrow. If it grabs me by the balls I'll trade for it if not or if he doesn't want to trade, well I have no problem at all keeping my truck.... Seen an old '82 Z28 Camaro of mine at the high school basketball game last night, was my third vehicle. I'm only 16! :P

I won't be getting the Fiero... It doesn't excite me enough to do what I have to do to my truck, for the guy to trade... He's gonna haul it home with a Uhaul, so I think we're both happy. Thanks for the input, I do wish I'd gotten to terst drive it though!
