Rebuilding a Pontiac 400 out of my 77 Trans Am. Stock XX block has been bored .030" over. Crank turned and polished. Rods fitted with ARP bolts. Using Edelbrock Performer heads and Intake with stock Rochester carb. Trying to decide on a cam. The matched one from Edelbrock seems a little weak. Anyone with a similar build have a cam suggestion for low-end to mid-range power?
 
Cams have to be matched to the other components of the car. To start with do you have automatic or manual? If an automatic what stall speed converter are you using, stock or something else? What rear end gears are in the car? There are four Pontiac Top End kits listed which one did you buy in order to determine what you consider a weak cam? If the cam number is 2157 it does seem to be weaker than the Pontiac 068 cam, Ram Air III, HO, etc. as far as duration but the lift is a little higher on the Edelbrock. Competition Cams has downloadable software for cam selection. You may want to try that. www.camquest.com

Left out a little info....it is an automatic car, stock transmission with a shift kit and stock stall converter. Has original gears - 3:23 posi. Did not buy the whole top end kit. Have the Edelbrock 61579 heads - 87 cc with D ports for stock manifolds. Running true duals with an H pipe. Will check out the software from Comp cams. Thanks.
