Major Oil Leak!

Going to try a little heat on the bolt first before I try the U-Tube method. Wish me luck!

Finally broke it free!!!!!! Will get a puller in the morning and continue on! Didn't like the idea of using the motor to break it free with the camshaft exposed lie it is right now. I'll keep you all posted!

Thanks for all the help so far!

what is the best way to support the motor before I take the front motor mount off?

Yea...just getting back to this,,,she has our daughter's car...so now hurry..for me, but I have the whole weekend to finish if I can.

Thanks for any input!

Got the gaskets.....not sure if I need both the rubber and the paper one....is the a different in years or motors? Didn't have the paper gasket when I took it apart...

Any suggestions on how to keep the new gaskets in place while re-installing the camshaft cover?

use silcone gasket cement and let it sit for about 15 minutes

When I pulled the timing chain cover off earlier I did notice a stress crack in the housing. During the course of removing and installing the camshaft cover it gave way. It doesn't appear that much oil makes it that far up the housing, but wanted to get opinions on if I should replace it or just try to cover it up somehow.

Thanks!

Sure. A little bubble gum, some paper clips, scraps of aluminum foil mixed with a bit of MacGyverism and she'll be right as the rain. ...... ......

..... ...... or not .....

Ok..thanks for the helpful suggestions.....ever use Metal Mend tape on an application like this? Please lets be serious, just trying to save my kid a buck or two on this.

Thanks!

In all seriousness George, you're dealing with heat, vibration, oils and solvents. Metal Mend is thin aluminum tape if I've got that right. The aluminum may hold up to the heat but I wouldn't count on the adhesive to last very long with the expansion and contraction of the engine warming up and cooling down, plus the oils will break down the adhesive.

I'm not exactly familiar with the broken housing in your pics but I doubt the Metal Mend solution will last all that long.

With everything stated, I will go ahead and replace the housing. It looks like it just bolts up to the block. Is it that simple or are there other things that I have to do?

Thanks for the advice!

I got the replacement timing chain inner cover today. Question is that it looks lie there are 3 different surface areas that look like they would require new gaskets. I haven't taken the old on off yet, but would it be safe to us an RTV or gasket maker?
