The inner timing chain cover is being difficult to remove....all nuts and bolts are out....any ideas or tips? The motor is still in the car.

Take that back..guess it's the water pump and where there is a seal going to the back of the timing chain tensioner????

The Chilton's manual say I have to remove the water pump to get this housing off. Is that really needed?
I've go play all around the cover except for around the timing belt tensioner???

Thanks...but was afraid you'd say that. Have to pull the exhast manifold off now....

Proceeding tonight with removing exhaust manifold and water pump. Any tips or words of wisdom?

Having issues with the bolts on the down pipe...any suggestions?

By down pipe, I assume that's the exhaust pipe attached to the header or manifold. They typically get heavily corroded. Use plenty of good penetrating oil and let it soak in a good while. If that doesn't help you break them loose then you might try heat at the nuts or female thread. Use the appropriate caution of course.

I hope, with all of this, that you are using the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while you are working on your engine, such as safety glasses, gloves, long sleeves, etc.

PPE...of course!,.,,,got that drilled in to me working at Comcast...lol....soaked in WD-40 over night.,,,,,just hit them again tonight,,,,letting it soak for a bit and got the front of the car up higher to give me a better angle on the nuts.

Thanks for helping out!
I appreciate it!

This is my daughter in law's car and she's due to deliver my first granddaughter so I want to get this done before that happens!

Thanks!

Yeah, as a sheet metal worker of 35 years, safety has been drilled into my head as well but you know, sometimes, when we're doing projects at home, we get a little complacent and skip some of the things we know are good for us. I've had to pay a few consequences for that.

I wish you luck and hope you are successful repairing this in time! Here's to a normal and natural birth, free of complications!

I hear that...my wife went in to labor every Tuesday night during the month of February in 1996 with my daughter......of course is was the night that I was supposed to be at the shop working on the race car...lol.

Thanks again for you advice!

George

Female thread; either in the nut or in a cast exhaust header. I didn't know if you were dealing with two mating flanges secured with nut and bolt or a flange mated to a cast header with threaded holes.

From the manifold there are 3 studs coming out to the exhaust pipe help on by three nuts
