I'm installing a new factory rebuilt 87 4 cly engine into a 86 fiero. Problem: the 86 intake manifold ports don't match the 87 head ports.

They made major modifications to the 2.5 4cylinder for the 87 & 88 Model years, your 87 engine is much improved with a roller cam, and around 10 more HP. But one of the changes they made must have been the intake manifold. So you will probably have to find an intake from a 1987 model, probably the carb also if you want it to run correctly.Good luck with it. If you post some pictures we may be of more help to you. That way we see exactly what the issue is.

How much are they off by?
Is there a way to use a 87 intake gasket as a template and grind the intake to match the gasket.
As stated in the post above 87 the whole top end was changed, heads, intake, TBI.

It's way different I'll see if I can get pictures from my album posted

Thanks, That's good to know. I wanted to use my 86 throttle body set up but sounds like that might not work. You mentioned carb, should I be looking for the complete 87 intake setup?

This is the 87 head with correct gasket and 86 intake manifold with throttle body attached

You appear to have no choice other than to try and find a complete 87 intake and TBI.
The company you bought the 87 rebuilt engine didn't warn you about the issue you have run into?

Long story...engine seller, 3rd hand, buyer (me) neither of which knew exactly what they had at 1st, deal was price driven.
I bought car with no head then found complete new engine & head. All which brings us together.

Looks like you have a date with Mr Die Grinder? As far as I know, the intake manifolds for the 4 bangers were all the same, for all years.

Exactly why I hate those later Dukes ( or Tech 4's) , none of them are worth the effort, I had huge success with the 79 - 83 ones. The later ones were ticking time bombs....Too bad the Fiero only came with them....
