I originally heard Pininfarina, the Italian coachbuilding firm, did two of them, maybe in steel. Nickname was K-wagon "K" for Kamm back. Maybe they were 1979 models? Subject is confused because then an aftermarket firm began offering conversion kits, which I guess fizzled out for lack of demand. Does GM still have one or two of the Pontiac Pininfarina versions or did one sell at auction? I think the Pontiac ones had lifting side glass panels to access the cargo area.
I am pretty sure they were two seaters, the whole rear section for cargo.
Anybody ever read what it cost to make them? I'm guessing $250,000 each for the ones built in Italy.
