Ugh....
2003 Sunfire with ~76K miles. We bought it new, and up until a week ago it ran/drove fine. About a month ago, while yielding to traffic in the middle of an intersection, the car died on me. After a few tries, it started back up and ran fine. No more problems for another month or two, and I wrote it off as a fluke.
Today, while running some errands, it dies again while I'm waiting on traffic to make a turn. But this time, it took FOREVER to get it started again. I mean, maybe 30-40 tries. The engine starts immediately (as always) and then dies just as quick. It almost seems as if it's starving for fuel. After leaving it sit on the side of the road for ~10 minutes, I was able to start it right up and drive home with no issues. No check engine light, nothing.
I've never had any real trouble with this car since new except for the bi-yearly (or so) battery change and a new alternator once. I've never changed the fuel filter, so I'll do that this weekend, but it wouldn't clog and then unclog, would it? Fuel pump or relay issue? Timing chain? Fuel pressure regulator? I'm at a loss as to what to check first.
I've read a lot of the more common issues these cars have, and these are the ones that pop up the most. Is there a way to check any of the culprits above?
