Looking for help with converting my POA R12 system on my 68 Lemans 350 to R134a. What do I need, where can I buy it and what do I need to do for installation? Thanks . . . JIMB

Most auto stores carry conversion kits. They consist of two adaptors that screw onto the existing fittings. You can then do the process two ways. Replace various components in the system, evacuate the system and recharge. Expensive process. The cheap way which I did on two cars successfully is to discharge the system into the atmosphere, install the fittings, and recharge, less costly method.

Where is my high side and low side valve? Is the high side on my POA valve

low is the POA, get a copy of the factory service manual

Ok, I do HVAC for a living, kinda familiar with refrigerants. First is the AC system intact? If so, and just low on charge, there are environmentally safe drop in replacements for R-12 that are compatible to the mineral oil in the compressor. On 134A plants, they use a synthetic oil that is NOT compatible with the mineral oil from the R-12 plant and to ensure it doesn't coagulate in a bearing the AC system should be thoroughly flushed prior to the changeover. Unless you are performing some major renovations, or have the proper tooling to do automotive HVAC, I'd recommend the drop in. Google R12 substitute as you probably won't find it in your average parts store.

Tx for all the help. I do have a service manual but I cannot seem to find a reference in the manual for high/low side service ports. So, if the POA has the low side . . is the high side on the dryer (I think thats what its called) - see the 2nd attachment - black cap on left hand side of container. Thanks . . . JIMB

Sorry, completely neglected that part of the question, yes, the high side is by the compressor and filter\drier, the low side is by the firewall and the fan.

Upgraded the AC system. Easy as Pie. Blows cold .....Brrrrrr.... air. I am getting a nasty noise from the compressor so I am thinking I will need to replace the compressor clutch. But, its winter. So maybe when it starts to get colder in the Carolinas.
