I never paid attention what kind of MPG I was getting until a friend of mine asked and I couldn't answer! After checking twice, it's 15/MPG in the city. Is there something wrong with my car? According to the original sticker it should be 24MPG/28MPG. It's a 1988 Fiero (base 2.5l engine) with only 26,000 miles on it.

When is the last time it was tuned up? The throttle body cleaned?
Even though it has low mileage, Age can affect the things.

I've read that the Muncie 4-speed with the more fuel efficient ratioed gears paired with the 2.5l I4 was getting 27 city-40 hwy. At first I thought those stats were a little high but when I realized the car only weighs 1 1/4 tons it seems...possible? LOL

Tune-up three months ago, including new plugs.

I suspect the O2 sensor is (going) bad. It is the main regulator of air/fuel. A leaky injector also could be contributing.

You did not say what kind of driving you do, if short trips then nothing is wrong. Until the engine gets up to operating temp. your engine runs rich, so in very cold weather it takes longer also. Check tire pressure, correct weight oil could also affect it. I have an 88 GT 5 spd, best freeway on a trip was 35mpg, no a/c going 65mph. But around town high teens, but no short trips (under 6 miles).

It's all citi driving in Hawaii with the A/C on, and I'm getting 15 MPG. I have not checked the highway mileage yet. When I start the car the engine revs to 2,000 but when I tap the gas pedal it drops to 1,500 and eventually down to 1,000. It idles at 1,000.

If it is idleing at 1000, check for vacuum leaks.
