my 2002 pontiac grand am wont start. changed the fuel pump but it still wont start.?

i took it to firestone for a diagnostic i was told it was the fuel pump. i changed it. it ran for a day but now it wont start. its doing the same thing its turns like if it wants to start but it looks like the new fuel pump is not working. could it be something else that is not sending the power to the pump. i was told that it could be the computer of the car that is going bad. sometimes it will start but sometimes it wont. what can i do? Help
 
have been fighting a simular problem with my 87 pontiac grand am 4tec engine with electronic fuel injection............it starts right up when cold but as the engine idles down if i push slightly on the gas it will stall and then hard to start .......... i use starter fluid at this point. If i let it alone after start and warm up until temp reads 160 degrees is runs fine. Also if i turn it off and it cools down same thing won't start without starter fluid and I must let it warm all the way up to run fine again. Last shop checked sensors and change one but is better but still this problem.............
 
is the theft light on when trying to start
are there any codes
b2960 or something like that
 
Did you change the pump yourself? Did you look at the fuel pump electrical plug to see if the terminals loose fitting?

There is a relay for the fuel pump (think it is number 18 on mine) might be worth checking.
 
2002 Pontiac Grand Am wont start

I had this problem for several years. Sometimes it starts, sometimes it wont. I finally found a mechanic who replaced my camshaft sensor. It has been starting everytime for over 6 months :-)

The OP posted this problem almost 1 1/2 yrs ago. It would be nice if he could update us on what the final fix was or if he gave up and dumped the car onto someone else.

I PM'd him so hopefully he'll return my query with what was done, if anything.

Good fix when you have the V6. The 2.2 doesn't have a camshaft sensor according to my repair manual.
