My '92 Pontiac Sunbird needs a motor?

My car jumped time and after replacing the belt, it needs a new head or a new motor. My question is do I have to use a motor from the exact year/model of my car, or can it take one from a similar car or one from a sunbird of a different year?

Also, I know they are kinda junky, but I paid so little for the car, repairing it isn't a problem.
