Ofcourse, that would take the knock out. But before you do that try lucas. I had the same problem with my buiick park ave. and I used the lucas motor oil treatment and I ran it on the highway a couple of time and it stopped the knock. It works because lucas is so viscous that it lubricates everything for a very long time.

What makes you think it's a rod? Could be other issues.
