my firebird idles tries to die and when i give it gas if i give it too much

it will just shudder????!!? i have a 92 automatic w/ overdrive, when i try to start it recently it seems like its not going to start then it starts tries to die and it will if i dont give it gas. after it has been runnin about ten minutes it does ok but if i shift to drive before then it will shudder and if i give it more than about an eighth of gas on the pedal it will just shudder then jump or die and when i get it goin on the highway if i give it more than a quarter of gas goin up a hill or somethin it seems like it has lost all horse power and does accelerate and shudders slightly, it almost acts as if it doesnt have enough fuel but it does...i know next to nothing about cars and i am hopping this little fiasco with my car will start off my learning experience any help will be greatly appreciated

Most probable problem for those symptoms is the need for an ignition tuneup, especially new spark plug wires if you've never replaced them.
