My gf drives an 88 Pontiac Sunbird and whenever she tries to turn off the car...

...the key gets stuck in on..help? It will work if I turn it to start and push the switch in while I turn it off, but if the car is running, I don't want to turn it to start to be able to do that. Could it just be the tumblers are getting stuck or maybe cause it's -20 degrees outside? Please help
 
Could be, but check if the shifter is all the way into park. You could also lube the switch with graphite powder. The cold temperatures aren't helping you out either. The lock could be binding internally... does she have a bunch of junk on her keyring? Like the typical five pounds of crap that most people have? The weight of the keyring could be binding the switch. Try taking the key off the keyring and trying it that way. If it works, put her key on a separate keyring all by itself and your worries are over.
