My hazzard lights on my Pontiac Sunfire are working, but the turn signals are not?

The hazard lights are working, I checked the fuse all is fine, I finally found the "flasher" and tested it. When I pulled it out, the hazards stopped working. When I put it back in the hazards started to work again. Next to the "flasher" was a square white 3 pronged fuse type piece, still don't know what it is.

I purchased a new flasher thinking that mine could possibly be bad, Advance Auto Parts listed the same "flasher" for the turn signals as the one that for the hazards. When I tried the new one, the same results, hazards worked, turn signals didn't. What could be the problem? PLEASE PLEASE Help me!!!! Thanks!
Great answers, I've found the flasher unit for the hazard lights, but can't find the turn signal flasher. I have a Pontiac Sunfire 1995.

The actual signal switch/lever/ directly behind the steering wheel could be broken. Undo the 3 screws from the bottom of the plastic shroud that covers the steering column. Separate the two halves. If you have tilt lever on left side you will have to unthread it using vice grips as they are usually "lock-tighted" in ): Remove screws and wiring plugs and change unit in reverse of said.

Strange though...Usually if ALL the signals lights flash when hazard switch turned on, but Turn signals don't work, it is the flsher relay that is defective. There are two little copper contact levers in the relay. The one to the signals seems to wear out first in my experience. Sometimes even a little carbon dust can accumulate from years of sparking during operation. This keeps the contacts from touching. Sand lightly and blow clean then try again. After sanding the little contact "button" and SLIGHTLY bend the tiny copper arm a hair towards the now sanded contact point...and voila !! the relay works again. No guarantees but you can get by for a bit and change to a new relar at your earliest convenience.

Where is the relay located in the car. My elderly neighbor has hazards but no turn signals. I am trying to fix it for him so he does not have to pay a shop.
