My Pontiac 2001 Aztek's dashboard temperature read out no longer works, showing "OC". What can I do?...

...Thanks! Temperature readout had been working on and off for about a year before totally giving out.

get a haines manuel at autozone and while there ask about fuses in the dash some do and some dont or the sensors gone bad or the wire may have burned out slowly

OC usually means "Out of Coolant". When was the last time you had it flushed?

1. Check your coolant level.
2. Check your collant type. I think Azteks take only Dexcool, which is ruddy. If there's green in there, the system may not recognize it. Check your owner's manual under coolant to make sure.
3. Check your coolant efficiency. If coolant has sat in there for too long, it may have lost its "charge" and no longer be effective enough for the meter to read the temperature. There are test strips you can buy at most CarQuests for about $2.
4. The "OC" could be a default if the thermostat goes out. If the coolant seems fine and is the right type, take it in to a shop.

Move to Orange County where the temperature is always awesome ??

It doesn't mean "Out of Coolant", it means "Out of Calibration". We are talking about the outside temperature display in the Driver Information Center below the speedometer, it has nothing to do with coolant or the engine temp!! Mine is doing the same thing, after I unplugged the sensor behind the passenger headlamp assembly and plugged it back in the display now says "OC". The compass is working fine though. Haven't been able to find an answer yet here as to how to fix it. Anyone else with suggestions/ideas?

The sensors for the outside air temp are prone to failure on many of the GM models , but the module itself could also have failed, a scan of the system should be able to pinpoint the problem ..
otherwise its just replacing parts until you find the one that is out..

When I went to start the car after my last post, the temperature reading is working fine now. Must have reset itself. If yours is still out, try the scan suggestion above...
