my wife has a 2001 pontiac aztek. engine cooling fans continue to run after vehicle is turned off.

what's up?
the vehicle has 110,000 miles and just started doing this. temp gauge barely moves.
fans kick off after about 5 minutes.
 
In many cars that is quite normal. The fan is simply cooling the water down for the next start-up. The sensor tells it when to cut off.
