hello everyone,i'm new here,i'm paul from the Netherlands,and driving a 1978 trans am with a 400 engine,21 years ago i rebuild my engine,complete with new bearings,seals,pistong rings,gaskets,
now my exhaust gasket is leaking, and i want to install a copper one,but i don't know where to order one,and which one is the best,is there someone to give me a good advice?hope to heer soon

Which exhaust gasket?
Between the cylinder head and the exhaust manifold or between the exhaust manifold and the engine pipe?
Try www.summitracing.com
Your English is much better than my Dutch!

Ok thanks, i take a look on summitracing, and now i can choose between D-port, Oval, Round, or Square port, has that something to do with the type cylinder head? It's been 21 year that i see the exhaust hole of the cylinder head, which must i choose?

Pontiac only had D port and round port which was only on Ram Air IV and 455 HO. So you probably have D port.

I have renewed my exhaust manifold gaskets, the holes of the manifolds were a little too big so I had the manifolds weld up and flattened a little bit,the connection to the cylinder heads are nice plane, when I started the car the gaskets leaked still, then let it turn hot and check the bolts again, but kept leaking, what am I doing wrong?and if I could grab any new headers with dad which one can I grab the best , I really want to get rid of that leaking sound, i hope to hear something, thank you, Paul

Are you talking about the factory cast iron manifolds or do you already have aftermarket headers?

If you can find it over there everyone uses it on exhaust leaks, use with your gaskets..

Make sure your header flanges are level , check with a straight edge.

Www.Remflex.com sells guaranteed no leak gaskets.

Anyone else has good experience with it? It's so much work to take everything off and assemble, I like to hear it

It works well, but another question, I know you ordered copper gaskets, but I have had better luck with composite header style gaskets when not using the stock exhaust manifolds

I have used these in the past to cure stubborn header leaks they have a layer of fiber material between 2 layers of metal gaskets. They can take up alot of misalignment between header flanges & exhaust port flanges. But sometimes the high temp RTV is still needed

they are somewhat expensive, and you may be able to find them cheaper if you shop around.

Good Luck

I have used the fiber type gaskets and soaked the gasket in water for about 15 minutes to soften it. When tightening the bolts you start with the center and work your way out to the ends.

Okay, thank you guys, with this information I can do something
