have a lead to buy a 1970 trans am . I am a mustang guy for 35 year ,but do not know anything on these car . how can I tell if is a clone

You will need vin and preferably a cowl tag number. The cowl tag is located under hood. View the picture I send you with this message. I can help you out using with this information, or use the site I link.

http://thepontiactransampage.com/numbers.html ------ When using this one make sure to READ footnotes at bottom when the link opens. They will indicate special notes regarding different years!

Hope I have helped.

ok thanks ,I know on mustang they have a vin on the shock towers do firebirds have any number on the body

As far as that, I am unsure. I think its just on the dash on inside by window. Do you have any description or an ad that the car is from? Is it a numbers matching car -- I can show you on the motor block where to look for the number. Also, you could ask for a PHS documentation. (PHS -- Pontiac Historic Society which is a group which offers a bunch of documentation to prove a car is real or clone. Also, pictures would help me see if it looks good. (Make sure to check the floor boards, especially where the front passenger / driver put their feet. Also check the dog legs, panel between rear wheel well and bottom of door. Bottom of doors like to rust as well) Any 2nd generation (1970 up to 1981) can exchange nose cones and panels to look like a different year.

Really hope I can, and have helped!

Best Regards, Rylen.

PS: I believe the 1970 TRANS AM was available only in white with blue center stripe, or blue with white center stripe. Firebirds should have been in different colors if original.

someone told me there is a number on the firewall near the a/c unit

as 1980Eprit pointed out the numbers are on the cowl/firewall tag, drivers side of car, under the hood.
