Hey Gang,

Found the leak on my 05 SV6. Its the steering pump hose. I cannot seem to get enough bite to get the hose off at the pump. I removed the window washer reservoir, cross member, a pulley, the serpentine belt..... there is still a pulley in front of it and i have no idea how to get it off! any leads? ill get a pic up shortly

Thanks a lot.

Normally I would suggest you need to go to the AutoZone website and sign up for free.
They have some information for your Montana however I do not know if you have a 2wd or 4 wheel drive so I checked both.

They do not offer procedures on replacing just the hose.

Normally this is self explanatory which may explain why they do not list in their online manual replacement instructions.

If your replacing the pressure hose you disconnect it from the pump and the rack then remove the line.

If you need more specific help than this someone surely may pipe in eventually, or sign up to Alldata Diy they will have step by step instructions plus and related TSBs

BTW the torn bellows boot on the rack is a sign that the rack may be leaking, which may have softened the boot causing it to tear.

If the rack is confirmed not to be leaking the bellows boot is inexpensive and easy to replace.

On the instructions for the rack removal they show access through the left wheel well.

here is what they list to change the rack.

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
Remove or disconnect the following:

Negative battery cable
Left front wheel
Stabilizer shaft
Tie rod ends from the steering knuckle
Intermediate shaft from the steering gear
Frame rear bolts and discard them. Properly support the frame using engine support stand J39580.
Power steering gear heat shield
Cooler pipe from the power steering gear
Pressure hose from the power steering gear
Power steering gear through the left wheel opening

To install:

Install or connect the following:

Power steering gear through the left wheel opening
New power steering gear bolts. Torque them to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
Pressure hose and cooler pipe to the power steering gear. Torque the fasteners to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
Heat shield. Torque the bolts to 54 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
Utility stand to support the frame
New rear frame bolts. Torque them to 122 ft. lbs. (165 Nm).

Remove the utility stand.
Install or connect the following:

Intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Torque the bolt to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
Tie rod ends to the steering knuckle
Stabilizer shaft. Torque the bolt to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
Left front wheel

Fill and bleed the power steering system and check for leaks.
Road test the vehicle and adjust the toe as necessary.

It is a 2wd. Thanks again

What seems to be the problem?

Are you having trouble getting the line off the pump or the rack?

Do you have the correct tools?

Looking at the picture you may need to rent- borrow a power steering pulley puller and installer to gain better access to the power steering
hose connection at the pump.

The connection at the rack should not be to hard once you jack up the vehicle remove the left wheel and lower splash shields

Make sure to use good quality line wrenches to break the lines loose to avoid rounding the fittings.

Your public library should give you access to service manuals like Haynes or Chiltons for free as well.

I like Alldata I have 5 year subscriptions for all my vehicles
