I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am Gt. When I am driving my car does not overheat and there is no rough shifting, but at times, not all the time my rpms want to run around 1000 when I am stopped. If anyone could lead me any information I would appreciate it.

Do you have a check engine light on? The throttle body or IAC, idle air control, valve may need cleaning.

My check engine light is not on. I just thought it was a cold start but it wasnt.

I was informed that it might need the carburator cleaned.

I feel dumb because I forgot there is no carburator, its fuel injected. I will have to check what you stated.

Then cleaning the throttle body and IAC and the port it's mounted to would be good places to start.
