new engine and 4 spd swap help

I just installed a rebuilt 350 with 46 heads. .60 over and summit street cam. Swapped the t350 for a m20. Has stock 2.78 gears. It's a dog out of first. I don't think I'm getting the power I should. Could it be my gears. It almost wants to stall getting out of first.

you don't mention what cam but typically cam manufacturers have suggested minimum rear end gears, yours is extremely out of range for any performance modifications. The minimum gearing Pontiac used on performance applications would be 3:23.
