Hi all,

I bought a 1979 Parisienne Brougham a while ago, and man am I glad I did, and have browsed the forum here and there. I've done most little fix ups myself but cant fix this one hopefully I can get some insight.

The rear door (sedan) door will not open. I would just drive it and not really be too concerned but the door doesnt latch all the way and wont open. So it's stuck in a middle ground of not shutting and not opening. Something is messed in the linkage and I can't jimmy it open because the handles aren't registering they just flop freely. Does anyone know how to take of the panel from the inside? A possible fix?

after removing the handles and arm rests the panel is typically held on with plastic clips that can be popped out with gentle prying on the panel with a putty knife. Some of the clips may break. Once off the linkage has to be checked to see what has failed.
 
It will be easier to get at the panel if you remove the back seat bottom cushion 1st. It usually requires 2 bolts to be removed located under the front edge of the seat just behind the lower lip ofthe seat. (my 79 Catalina is a wagon so the rear seat is diffent) but some models the lower seat spring rail just latches into a J hook welded to the floor pan. If you do not see a bolt on each side, you shouldbe able to see were the seat latches into the J hook. You will need to push the lower spring rail back with some force then pull the front edge of the seat up.
After removing the seat you will have to remove the armrest (usually 2 screws), and if you have manual windows the window crank. Then remove the lock knob by unscrewing it from the rod. Then the door panel can be removed as described above by starting at the bottom with something flat and pull the christmas tree fasteners out of the door. After it is loose and at a 45 degree angle you usually have to pull it straight up to get it out of the window channel. It usually helps to have the windo rolled down to get the panel off, but the window usually had to be up to work on the lock hardware.
Remember you have a door that opens on the other side to compare it to. And to practice taking the door panel off of so that you will know exactly what youneed to do on the side that wont open.

Thanks buddy, I managed to get the door off without messing with the seat but with a short screw driver. I broke a couple clips but eventually got the panel off. The latch actually works great thankfully it was just caked with old grease.
