New starter on my 1994 Pontiac Firebird makes a weird sound when starting?

i am 15 and i have a 1994 firebird that i put a new starter on that i bought from autozone. now when i start my car while its turning over it almost sounds literally like a supercharger cranking. it sounds pretty cool, but its probably not real cool it is going to hurt my car. right now im going to votech in the auto tech class and i was thinking about asking my teacher if i can bring it up to have him look at it. what could cause the starter to make this sound? the voltage is where it is supposed to be
