Hello all new to the forum. I have owned a standard '69 GTO 400/350 hp 400auto w/AC & hideaways since 1997. I have recently purchased an original '73 Luxury Lemans, which has been documented by PHS, to have 32 factory options. The options of interest: L75 455 4 bbl, 400 auto, CD G code 3.08 rear safe t track diff. AC, cruise, tilt, PW, PDL, power drivers bucket, factory power sunroof, Power trunk, Stereo 8 track, electric rear defogger, block heater. The car is in nice original shape, but I am hoping to determine how many '73 Luxury Lemans' were 455 equipped, or to determine how many had 455's and the host of options that were ordered on my car. VIN starts 2G37Y3P
Burma brown metallic with white interior and full white cordova top. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Knowing this will shape the plans I have for the car in the future. Thanks! Dave

2 Pontiac
G = Luxury Lemans
37 = Coupe 2 Door Hardtop
Y = 455 4 BBL 250 Net HP Dual Exhaust ( 340 Gross HP)

How about a pic ? ( I once had a 75 Grand Lemans 4 door 350 2BBL)

'73 455 Luxury Lemans

Hi Doug, thanks for your response, I have as well decoded the VIN of the vehicle, which corresponds to the info you have provided. I am quite interested to learn how many of the 33,916 luxury coupes built were 455 equipped? Or even better to see how many 455's were built with the options like the factory power sunroof. I was hoping PHS would provide that breakdown but they did not. I also know the luxury lemans comprised 13% of all lemans production for 1973. I will see what I can do about posting some pics, however the car is away for winter storage until spring. If you search 1973 455 Pontiac Luxury Lemans Calgary, Alberta Canada you will bring up the sellers adds for the vehicle before I purchased it. I also found online a copy of an appraisal that was done on the vehicle in 2008 in Calgary Alberta. The vehicle was described as excellent, original, right down to the 14" Rally 2's. Value at that time was 15,000 Canadian. She was shipped out of the states 1/23/73 and is now back in her home state of MI just a short trip from the old Pontiac Assembly Plant that originally built her. The car is nice as it sits, but I have a bad habit of improving the appearance and performance of each collector car I own. Thank again, for your response! Dave

1973 Luxury Lemans 455

Doug, glad you located the Luxury Lemans. I sent an e-mail out to Christo. I thought I saw somewhere that for 1972's there were 71 455 equipped Luxury Lemans. If my '73 Lemans is on the very rare side, I will need to keep it very close to stock in all aspects. I don't imagine there is much you can do with the 4X heads with the pressed in studs and 114 cc chambers? She still runs strong, but there is some lifter tick going on. I can't believe it but the car still has the original head pipes on it. They squeeze down flat by design to navigate through the transmission cross member. Very restrictive, but performance wasn't the focus any longer. I appreciate your help, Doug. Thanks, Dave

Your welcome Dave,
they just got the Pontiac stuff from GM recently and are still sorting it out.... might take a while if he has the info.

Another member here needed the same info on a 455 Grand AM, dont know if he got a reply or not from them.

Did you find the build sheet on/in the car?

'73 Luxury Lemans 455

Doug, going to drop the tank in the spring to see if it is there. I already pulled the rear seat bottom to have a look, but no luck there. I have a copy of a document titled: Canadian Car M. A. Invoice Custom's Form/Pontiac Motor Division. It lists all 33 options along with a conversion to Canadian pricing. PHS highlighted the VIN and the Luxury Lemans 2 door and then highlighted the L75 455 4BBL. engine in the second column of the options list. No comments or additional information was provided. They must have thought something was of interest for them to highlight. The option code for the safe - t - track 3.08 rear is G80 like so many Chevrolets were equipped. Funny thing is the '73 Pontiac service manual fails to list a CD G rear differential anywhere in the differential section of the manual. Only lists CD O or CD P as a source code for the assembly. The owner was unaware of the safe - t- track diff. as I asked specifically about it. It still has the aluminum posi lube warning tag attached to the cover. The stereo 8 track option was 152.10 and the L75 455 was 120.12, the electric sunroof was 253.50, AC was 309.66, and the N10 dual exhaust was 23.40. I will be hoping to hear something from Cristo in the near future. If the car was more common Id be building thee engine up to 500 horses and adding a higher stall convertor to work with the 3.08 gear. Great gear out on the open road, the car is pretty sweet @ 75mph on the highway. Have a great weekend. Dave

1973 455 Luxury Lemans production

Thanks to all that assisted and pointed me in the right direction in regard to production #'s of my newly acquired '73 L75 455 Luxury Lemans. Through your help, I was able to get a response from Christo Datini of the GM Heritage Center. Turns out that of the 33,916 2 door Luxury Le Mans coupes built, only 83 were L75 455 equipped. Couple this will all the additional factory options this vehicle has, and it wouldn't be much of a stretch to think this car could be only 1 of 1 so equipped. Thank you, to all the great folks that assisted me with this inquiry. With special thanks going to Doug for his direction, and kudos to Christo for doing the leg work and reporting the information back to me so quickly. Time to get started turning back the hands of time on this Pontiac!
Happy Thanksgiving! Dave

Your welcome Dave, and good luck on the restore of your rare car.
