• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... Hey guys

I'm new to this forum, but not to Pontiacs, specifically Firebirds, as both my brother and I are just a bit enthusiastic about the no longer extant brand. Yeah: We're still pissed at the General.

Some of our nicer 'birds flying in formation:
1968 Firebird conv., 400, Tremec 5-spd, HO stripes, triple black.
1979 Trans Am, HOK tangerine, shaved, white leather, P455, 700R4, E85.
1981 Trans Am Turbo Daytona Pace Car Recaro.
1989 Trans Am Turbo Indy Pace Car.
1987 GTA, 305, 360,000 miles on original never rebuilt engine, daily driver.
And mostly solid future projects...
1980 Firebird, 1970-73 Formula front clip, BBB455, coming soon...
1979, dead 403, track car???
1988 GTA, dead 350, land-speed car???

OK, so out of this hyper-enthusiasm I'm producing a series of how-to videos on rebuilding classic Pontiac engines, in particular the 455 in "TempTAtion".
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2973935/1979-pontiac-trans-am/

The first chapter features on experienced machinist and engine rebuilder tearing down the shortblock and initial inspection. Upcoming chapters will follow the build: Inspection, machining, assembly with a planned visit to the dyno and finally road testing the new combo. All in 1080HD.

The engine: Originally pulled from a 1972 Bonneville (or Grandville?) the 455 was rebuilt back around '98 and used as a daily driver. The mild build has indicated around 200rwhp. The 6X heads are being replaced with #16 1969 GTO heads with Ferrea valves to up the compression to around 12:1 (maybe more). The new cam is Crower's Ram Air IV, 60919. The old rods are giving way to Crower Sportsman forgings. Pro-Gram four bolt billet main caps will reinforce the bottom end and the original crank. I'm guessing 450+ at the flywheel, some say 500 hp is possible on moonshine. Stay tuned!

You can watch chapter 1 on your computer only in 1080HD only on Vimeo:

Let me know if you like the video and would like to see more. Thanks for having me!

will try to find time to watch but thanks for posting

Crank and run - crank it up!

Yeah, we corrected the camshaft thrust plate error in 13 by reediting.

Part 15 is uploaded, assembly.
Part 16 will be uploaded next week, final assembly.
Part 17, crank and run is uploaded:

The audio is awesome, as the engine goes from an out-of-tune blatt to a mellow rumble.

Next recording at Butler Performance for a dyno session!

Next video series: Rebuilding a 700R4 for max performance!
