• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... Hi, my name is Byron McElfresh. I have always loved the Pontiacs of the past and the engines in them. While I have built all types of engines, none of the others gives me as much pleasure as building a Pontiac V8. I also am very political in my views, to the point a half dozen years ago I ran for an office against very well known and money backed field. While i didn't win, I have been told by all the others who were running that I made them address some issues they didn't want to. So I hope I had a possitive influence. I love a good drag race too. I have an attitude about chevies racecars, I put Pontiac engines in them !!! And even Fords in early camaros, because the chevy engines is just plain way over rated.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up! That's interesting to hear you've ran for office at one time. Would you consider it again? And what's the difference between Chevy and Pontiac engines.. Didn't Firebirds and Trans Ams (and Formulas, for that matter) come with Chevy 305s and 350s?

From 70-81 all Firebirds, Formulas and T/A's had Pontiac V8s. Well, almost....

In the T/A's
1970 400 Pontiac Std
1971-1974 455 Pontiac Std
1975-1976 400 Pontiac Std, 455 optional
1977-1979 301 Pontiac Std, 403 Olds optional, 400 Pontiac optional
1980-1981 301 Pontiac Std 49 State, 301 Turbo V8 optional 49 State, 305 only available in CA
1982-1984 305 Chevy 4BBL, optional Cross Fire fuel injection
1985-1992 305 TPI Std, 350 TPI optional 1986-1992. 350 not available with 5speed.
1993-1997 350 LT1 Std
1998-2004 LS1 Std

I started liking cars in the early 80s.. So I guess all I really knew about were Chevy f-bodies... The late 70s cars were weak for performance with the whole gas situation going on. I never got into any of them... Of course, I was too young to think about modifying them...
