I purchased a fuel pump and sending unit assembly for my 1998 pontiac montana. The new pump has ONLY a 4 wire harness, the old has two connectors, one connector with 3 wires and one with 4 wires. Does this mean I need to jump several of the wires together on the old wires to the new butt connector on the new wire? Has anyone done this? Does anyone have the rewire diagram? I read the new wire harness is safer than the old but really do not know from experience. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I solved this problem. The new pump is supposed to be the equivalent of the old with the exception of the new style wire harness. The new pump ONLY came with one wire connection up top. What I did was pulled the old 3 wire connector off the old pump with the rubber gasket and pushed it into the new pump. Now the original 3 wire connector went to that and the old 4 wire (square connector) I made butt connections to the new style harness with the oblong type connector(new style). So if anyone runs into this problem, pull the old connector from the original pump and you should be good to go.
