No a/c

07 montana, a/c was working fine yesterday but not today. Looked at a/c comp and noticed that the cluch was not engaging.

Well if your lucky it just needs some refrigerant put in . But could be alot of things ,needs to be trouble shot first. You could also check the fuse for it. Have you noticed it not working as good as it did when new , if so perhaps it was a slow leak over time and finally enough leaked out to not engage the high pressure switch and then the clutch.

is there any way i can check the system myself before i bring it in for service?

I currently have no a/c in my 05 montana, and the mechanic said it was because of a leak in the ac condenser. Its about a grand to have a new condenser put in, and most of that is labour cost. Maybe your condenser has gone too?
