so the gf calls me friday night, her 2001 aztek just died on the road, everything is on lights radio ect, its just not running. so they tow it to the son's house. after some poking around and a couple of calls to my more mechanically inclined brother we determined that the fuel pump was not working. i had taken a couple of spark plug testers with me and put those inline with the plugs. we got spark.

so no fuel, fuel pump not working, but why?? more poking around in the fuse box and all the fuses were good. i pulled a relay from the drl slot (day time running lights) that was the same and put it in, fuel pump turned on and fuel came out the hose i had disconnected at the fuel filter. end of the night.

next day got a replacement relay at the dealer, thinking put it in, drive it home. put the relay back into the drl slot in the fuse block, turn the key ....nothing....all we did was turn the key off the night before. left the same relay in the fuel pump slot and now its not working.

to shorten the story

fuel tank is out, c 305 connector is out, we used the fuel pump to pump out 10 gallon of gas so the tank was lighter, we used jumpers to the battery straight to the pump. so the pump works. we had all 3 of the relays we had in the fuel pump slot in the fuse block at some time, still no power down the gray wire at the c 305. we checked continuity from the gray (fuel pump power) and black (grd) wires for the fuel pump back to the fuse block in the relay slot and they are good. there is power in the slot where the relay goes for pin 87.

my bros best guess now is the fuel damper, we dont have a book so i am wondering what the correct way to check it is.

going to make the gf buy a new harness from c 305 to the pump since its only $40 on ebay. i do need to find wire terminal ends to rebuild the body side of c 305, if any body knows where to find them please let me know.

thanks for reading, this has to be something simple but i am just missing it. any ideas would be appreciated

havent come across the term fuel damper, can you explain? If you have the wiring diagram does the pump circuit go through the ignition switch? If so a bad contact would account for it working and then not working

its a devise in the fuel rail to tell the fuel pump if the rail has enough pressure, if the pressure is high enough then them pump turns off, if its low it truns on.

I just went to Napa, Autozone and Rock Auto sites and can not find a fuel damper listed for that car. Have you actually seen it and are sure it's not the fuel pressure regulator?

yep read that, its good for the c 305, but i still have no power at the fuel pump wires prior to the c305
