I'm not getting heat in my 2002 Pontiac grand am until the temperature gauge goes past halfway and then goes back down. I added coolant and that doesn't seem to have helped. Could it it be my thermostat? I'm not are what else it could be? Please help as the temperature in the city I live is going to get really cold this week. Thanks.

Is/was your coolant low? If so, you may have an airlock in the cooling system. Find out where the coolant went.

Great! Sometimes these engines will get an airlock. My concern now is where did your coolant go? Bad waterpump hopefully, these are an easy fix. Lower intake, not so easy. This is assuming you have the V6.
