No heat, weak air movement and no heat

Hello, i have a 90 grand am quad 4 and i have replaced my heater core,this being in the summer. It is now -31 (Canada) and i have no heat. No matter what the dial is on, defrost, heater etc. no heat comes out, and i am damn cold lol. What could be the problem? Help would be awesome.

Can you hear if the fan is moving or not? If not, it could be the fan motor. I have a 99 grand am and that happened to me.
 
Check your fuses/circuit breakers and relays as well, if you haven't already. It's unlikely but check to see if your heater core is getting hot; though that'd indicate problems with your cooling system, and I doubt you have that or you'd have mentioned it. But it's best to cover all the bases. And if you don't have one, get a repair manual for your car. It will give you information on how your heat and AC work and show how to repair or replace what's gone wrong.

Try replacing the water pump. It worked for me.
 
The heater core has been replaced by myself, and i don't have a radio, so i can put my hand in the dash and feel the heat from the heater core. one day i had heat when i had the knob turned to the center vents that blow air towards you. But then it went back to not having warm air again. The volume of air coming through the vents is real weak, so i wonder if its the fan. Is there a cabin air filter in there? Cause it may be plugged with crap since it probably hasn't ever been changed.
 
My 80 Turbo T/A was weak on airflow, it was just numerous factory air leaks and some caused by the previous owner. And now the defroster airvalve isn't working, so no defroster either. Hole in the diaphram and I can't get to, and am sorta afraid to get into to it too much. There is even a 1/2" gap between the defrost ducts going up and the heater air source. And I can't get in there to tape it up. Maybe there was supposed to be something like foam there, but it is pretty gappy....
 
That sounds like it could be a cause in my situation. I did break the heater core box when i changed the core, so air can escape there too. But my air has always been weak. so maybe somewhere else its leaking too.

It's not the best fix, but get some of the home AC tape (the silvery type) and seal off the heater core and evaporator surrounds. And any other leaks you can find. As you fix them, your airflow should be (hopefully) noticeably stronger and other leaks should be easier to detect.
 
ya i just put a heater core in my car and i broke the box also. i just went to the dealer and got a new one it was like 30 bucks or somethin it was pretty cheap and a hell of a lot easier than gettin that damn bolt out of the back in a junkyard
 
Same car, same problem, yet to resolve

My daughter has the exact same issue with her 02 Grand-am. I'm thinking that the A/C evaporator and the heater core may be fouled with dirt thus minimizing both the air flow and the air temperature. Seems logical but it appears to be quite a task to access these items. I'm looking to have it done by my trustworthy mechanic. It ain't worth the aggrevation if it's only a couple hours at his labor rate.

It could be dirt on the core, something that crawled in there (likely smelly too), something blocking intake or exhaust (of the fan).

Make sure the doors are opening and closing.

Do you see any airflow differences on heater vs vents? Or when Recirculate is on vs not? That would show where the blockage (if there is one) might be.

Also depends on if the mechanic (dealer) is $100/hr or not!

Same car. Same problem. Finally fixed.

It was a completely fouled A/C evaporator core and all it needed was a good cleaning. The fins were blocked by dirt, fuzz, and general filth. I had the heater core replaced as well since they were in there and had it all apart. Total cost for that portion of the repair bill was just under $200. Air flows great now and the temperature is where it should be.
