Hi guys, on the weekend I took my wife's '06 Torrent through an automatic car wash, I assume it sprays under the vehicle, and when I went to drive away the car would BARELY move....in Park...if I floored it it would only rev to maybe 3500 rpm max, and in any other moving gear it would take a few seconds of flooring before anything happened at all , then would FINALLY SLOOOOOWLY start to accellerate, barely faster than idle....I limped it to my uncles house nearby where I let it sit for a few hours and it finally worked again.
The whole time it had a check engine light, a check engine light with a down arrow inside it & T/C lights all on....now just check engine.

I'm thinking some wiring got wet, but I would expect a vehicle to be able to get sprayed a bit underneath.....makes me want to keep it in the driveway on a rainy day....
Anyone have this problem before?
Thanks

The vehicle is 6 years old and I assume has seen wet roadways many times. Have you been to this car wash before? Perhaps they are overzealous in the amount of water pressure or quanity of water they use under the car?

I just had the same problem with '06 Torrent. No power, warning lights everywhere and I have taken the car to this car wash 4 or 5 times now.

Was it just water infiltration? Does it go away after a bit?

Normally it should just dry out.

Maxco,
Are you still experiencing issues with your vehicle? If you are I would suggest that you contact your local dealer and have them look into this for you. Please keep me posted on this and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.

Melsg5 - My power problems cleared up the next morning. Now I just have a check engine light, which probably just needs to be reset. I'm taking it to my mechanic on Tues.

I have had this problem before, just once and it only lasted 10-15 seconds....so I wasn't too concerned then.
The carpets were very wet, which I have since found the carpets also get wet after a heavy rain, whether the car was out driving or not...

I haven't had the "power" problem again, but also haven't had it through an auto car wash since then.

I had the same problem about a year ago on my 2006 Torrent. It was caused by the drain tubes from the moon roof being plugged. Took it to dealer body shop who diagnosed and fixed in an hour.

Thanks Greg, however I have had that checked and the tubes are clear...so not sure what the problem is. Floor is still wet, pretty constantly....although I haven't had any stalling problems lately.

I know this post is old and you likely dont have this car anymore but i think this info is important for other people. I had this same issue. My car would not go past 15kmh. There was an engine light with an arrow pointing down. Decreased engine power. Was caused by water coming in through the sunroof and trickling down to the accelerator pedal connection and shorting it out. You take the panel off infront of driver door by hood release and theres a big connector i disconnected it and dried it with a blow drier and plugged it in and it worked. I wrapped the connector in plastic wrap and taped it u til i can figure out how to fix the sunroof leak.

Thank you that is exactly what i needed to know, the main fault i show is accelerator petal problems when all 3 lights lights come on and no power. They all clear when it dries out
