Hi, I'm new to this forum but I'm sure glad it's heere. I have a 70 Lemans, with the 350 5.7, and a 2spd pwrglide. It is a 4dr and it's a great car. It's all original, when I bought it the jack, spare, tire iron were all intact with the little rubber sheath and there is NO rust on it. Came from the Central TX hill country. I will post some pics later. I'm just looking for advice for anyone who has been down this road.

It still has the original distributor and Rochester carb. I am doing some upgrades, and I've been looking at replacing the distributor but would it be worth it to replace the carburetor right now? I can't seem to find another two barrel and I don't want to replace my intake manifold just yet. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

why are you replacing either one as opposed to rebuild? Parts are readily available.

RE: replace/rebld

Well, I'm still trying to figure that out. Someone told me it needed to be done replace the carb, for fuel efficiency and replace the old distributor with a (MSD ready to run), to eliminate timing problems from using points and condensers. Any advice on these?

My big thing here is trying to get this running efficiently on a budget. Not too concerned with high performance gear right now but I do want it eliminate any problems with older parts.

The car runs with no problems, well I say that but it needs a new exhaust BIG TIME: i think the muffler may be collapsed b/c it keeps running kind of hot; and I need to replace the coil springs b/c i keep bottoming out and every time that happens it loosens my flywheel and I have to jack it up and tighten it.

Springs are coming in next week, and once those are on I will probably go forward with the exhaust.

if your on a budget replacing the distributor without a specific problem makes no sense. Points and a cap and rotor are alot cheaper than a new distributor. Replace the plug wires also. If you want to get rid of the points install a Mallory Unilite conversion.
Get a rebuild kit from, I believe the company is called the Carburetor Shop, you can find it online.

Re:

Hey thanks a lot, I'm going to order one (way cheaper than an msd),of those and install it with my springs next week. I'll post some pics and stuff. It's been a strong running engine so far and Any other recommendations, on getting some interior parts such as the door panels, and side board panels; the old stuff just seems to be disintegrating. The dash is split and I am looking to replace it with a new one. I'm looking at putting in the carpet myself and have the seats re-upholstered at a local spot here in Houston. Thanks again~

:D Hey try petronix, it replaces points with electronic module. You can definitely rebuild your carb. Cliff Ruggles is another place you can get your carb rebuilt.
