Oil capacity discrepancy.

1999 Grand Am. 2.4L 4 cyl. Owners manual says capacity is 4 qts. After filling, it shows 1 qt. low on dipstick. Which is right, the manual or the dipstick?

4 Qts with filter change, then add to full mark on dip stick .

Why can't they just print the ACTUAL quantity of oil required to fill the crankcase??? Sheesh! Thanx though.

Add a little at a time when car is cold, you don't want to overfill which is bad.

My Sunbird says basicly the same thing ( 4.5 with filter change) but it takes 5 to the full mark.
