I have a 1985 Fiero GT 2.8. Reasonable miles on the machine around 60000 miles, in very good shape. I just purchased the vehicle as I had a 84 4 cylinder as my first car so I thought I would give it another go 24 years later.

I have had a couple of issues thus far. Oil leak on the passenger side forward the motor, seems to occur when the engine cools down in the garage. Also another oil leak on the left rear which appears to be a lighter colored oil.

The chieck engine light comes on the odd time when the vehicle idle finally gets down to about 1100 rpm.

Ignitiion colar needs to be pushed hard sometimes to start the vehicle, but other times not a problem.

Air conditioning does not work, compressor seized, condensor leaked out, needs replacement, will the evaporator be toast?

Oil leak at front of motor is usually the front seal on the timing cover. When replacing, inspect the sleeve of the harmonic balancer. These can sometimes get grooved from a bad seal.

Second oil leak could be a few things. Is the trans a manual or an automatic? Manual transaxles have a VSS sensor seal that can cause the manual to leak a little bit of oil. The auto's have cooling lines that can leak. Both transaxles have axle seals that can leak over time. The metal brake lines can corrode and leak. (how does the brake pedal feel?) Suggest you but some spray-on degreaser and clean the engine compartment very well. This will help find the source of the leaks.

Check engine light could be an EGR or MAP sensor error. You posted about the cruise control vacuum canister (coffee can). If it has a rust hole in it you will have a vacuum leak which could cause the CEL light.

Ignition switch is getting worn. You can replace it. See www.fierostore.com

AC is most likely toast. The Fiero Factory should have plenty of replacement parts. http://www.thefierofactory.com/index.php

This is an manual transmition. The brake pedal feels good. The car just went through a safety check so all the major stuff should have been looked at.

I just ordered an ac compressor and condensor which was hard to find.

Does the engine have to come out to work on the front leak?

No, you can get to the timing cover (where the seal is actually mounted to) thru the passenger side wheel well.

Okay I am going to get the motor as clean as possible then have a good look.

It is a werd leak as it appears to only occur when the motor completely cools down.

The ignition switch replacement is it a difficult job?

Trying to find how to check the transaxle fluid, just ordered up a Haynes manual.

I am not a mechanic so need all the help I can get.

Anyone installed a cold air intake, seems there would be more cold air from the side then in the engine compartment?

When I look down on the passenger side looks like a some oid above the pulleys in what looks like a sensor location. The is forward but behind the ac compressor.

Oil leaks fiero front right passenger side.

Okay work in progress with the fiero. Air conditioning fixed yahooo, used condensor from the fiero factory, and new air compressor, 134a filled workes great.

Ignition issue appears to be some rotted out vacuum tubes.

Left rear oil leak appears to be transaxle seal, damp to the touch, nead replacement.

Timing cover plate seal replaced, continues to be a leak front right, dripping down to the frame.

Any suggestions?
