My son has a 2002 grand am that just started pumping oil out around the o ring to the oil filter. We have been all over looking for info but can find little. It is a 2.2 litre ecotech engine. I narrowed it down to the oil pressure relief valve but can't find the darn thing anywhere. We have been told it is in the filter, the block, the pump and the filter housing. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

Why didnt you just replace the ring with a new one? Are you sure the cover is correctly tightened, about 18 ft/lbs?

yes we replaced the o tring and torqued it to specs. It still blows the ring out of place

We replaced the cap, and the filter came with a new o ring. Fram paper filter.
Again most we have spoken to have stated it was the relief valve. We just can't find it. The last spot was timing belt cover that includes pump and front seal for almost 200 bucks

Dump the fram filter and ring and buy the correct GM part. You will see that the GM ring is thicker.

ok. we did get a thicker ring and it did the same thing but I will get him to get a new filter from gm

and the cap! Everything I've seen is the pressure relief is part of the filter assembly. Was the thicker ring GM?

when the filter was installed did you lubricate both the large and small O rings? Did you attach the oil filter to the cap and then install it as an assembly?
