Ok, my friend just bought a 98 T/A A4 and is having some engine trouble. It's ok when it's first started, but after one healthy romp, it begins to sputter and...well, he got beat by a 4 cyl Tiburon last night so...lol ya it's bad. It's nothing to do with heat up, becuase I drove it about 25 miles with no trouble, pulled up on a 90ish integra, used up that "one good romp" and almost got passed by a Grand Prix SE lol. When he gets real hard on it, the fuel pump starts whining really loud and doesn't stop, even at idle. The local shops keep telling him the pump is either orking or not, that's no such thing as a weak pump...I know better, but any ideas? Maybe a plugged fuel filter (car has 98,XXX miles)? Thanks for any help!

The local shop is full of doo doo. They DO start going bad. That is why it is whining.

Haha

Ya, thats pretty much what I've come to know. He told me that "The shop that ran the comnputer diagnostic said he needed all new O2 sensors, and it's missing on one cylinder" LMAO, ya and they said it's normal to hear the fuel pump that loud....but, none the less, something is deffinetly wrong with it...I SMOKED him 3 times last night in my 93 F150 (4.9 straight 6) haha! I'll let you all know what wasting his money on sensors gets him!

He might want to check the coil on the cylinder that's missing. Just a thought.:D

As far as the pump being loud, they can be but, they shouldn't whine. I am a boat mechanic by trade and I run into that problem alot. Where the boat starts bogging. And of course the fuel pump is whining.

I hate working on boats. They are all junk!LOL I prefer cars. But I used to work on cars all day then, it wasn't any fun working on mine when I got home.

Haha, never thought about the coil. I realize that pumps are noisey, but I mean it's probly like 200 %louder and it's all of the sudden kinda thing. Like you can drive the car all day, no noise. Stab on the gas, and it's got one good "get-up", but then it's just sputtery, and has trouble shifting it seems. Like I said, I'll post the giggles after he spends his couple hundred bux on nothin!
